| In 1885, Sir Edwin Arnold, the
well known author of “The Light of the Asia” published few articles in “The
Telegraph” of which he was the Editor, drawing the attention of the
Buddhists to the deplorable conditions of the Buddhagaya Temple and its
surroundings. |

| He visited Buddhagaya on 22nd Jaunary,1891. His heart broke when he saw the appealing condition of this holy spots, with absolute dedication he resolved to start his great mission to for the restoration of Buddhagaya Temple and regenaration of Buddhism in the land of the its birth. |
