MBSI Center
The Lucknow Centre of the Maha Bodhi Society of India has been an important centre for the preservation and propagation of the Buddha Dhamma in northern India. The Centre came into the possession of the Maha Bodhi Society of India in 1953, following the generous bequest of the Buddhist temple by Ven. Bodhananda Maha Thero, the founder of the Lucknow Buddhist Temple.
Ven. Bodhananda Maha Thero held deep faith and confidence in Ven. Devapriya Valisinha, the able assistant of Bodhisattva Anagarika A. Dharmapala and the second General Secretary of the Maha Bodhi Society of India. In recognition of the Society's dedication to the revival, preservation, and propagation of Buddhism, Ven. Bodhananda Maha Thero decided to bequeath the temple to the Maha Bodhi Society of India through his will. This generous act became an important milestone in the history of the Society and ensured the continued Buddhist character and service of the temple.
Since becoming part of the Maha Bodhi Society of India, the Lucknow Centre has continued to serve as a place of spiritual practice, Buddhist fellowship, pilgrimage, and Dhamma activities. The Centre provides a welcoming space for both local devotees and international pilgrims travelling through Lucknow, offering them an opportunity to engage with the Buddha Dhamma and participate in Buddhist religious activities.
The Centre provides a peaceful environment for devotees to practise and deepen their understanding of the Buddha's teachings. Various Dhamma-related activities, religious observances, meditation programmes, Buddha Puja, chanting, sermons, and other Buddhist gatherings are conducted for the benefit of devotees and visitors.
