Shravasti Centre
The Shravasti Centre (Chinese Buddhist Temple) of the Maha Bodhi Society of India is situated in the sacred Buddhist land of Shravasti, one of the most important places associated with the life and teachings of the Buddha. Located adjacent to the historic Jetavanaramaya, the Centre provides a peaceful setting for pilgrims and devotees to engage in meditation, chanting, religious observances, and other Dhamma activities.
Shravasti occupies a distinguished place in Buddhist history. It was at Jetavana, the famous monastery at Shravasti, that the Buddha spent a significant portion of his monastic life. According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha observed 45 Vassāna (rainy-season) retreats during his lifetime, with many of these spent at Shravasti.
The Buddha also delivered a large number of His Dhamma discourses at Shravasti. The teachings given here became an important part of the Buddhist tradition and contributed greatly to the spread and preservation of the Buddha's message.
